DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
Readers, today I want to talk a little bit about history as I know it from reading the Bible. What I don’t know I will ask the Holy Spirit to help me as I am writing this article or add in my future articles. I am going to start with the Book of Exodus 20:1-17, or from Deuteronomy 5:4-21. They are identical. And I invite you to open your Bible too. The Lord said, "I [am] the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.” Exodus 20:2. Who were these people whom God had freed from slavery? They were the Jews, descendants of Abraham. And why did God give them the Ten Commandments? Because these are the important distinguishing differences between God’s people and the rest of the world. God’s people obeyed the Ten Commandments, whereas the rest of the world ignores. There are minor differences like the practice of circumcision which the Muslims practice in their countries. The primary distinguishing characteristics between God’s people and the rest of the world is the Ten Commandments. And that is the will of God, and not faith in Jesus. How did I know that? Jesus said, "And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.” John 12:47. In other words, if we do not believe in Jesus, or what Jesus said, we will not be judged. We will not lose eternal life if we do not believe in Jesus. But we will lose eternal life if we do not do the will of God the Father.
Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. "Many will say to Me on that day, `Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' "And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'” Matthew 7:21-23.
Are we doing the will of Jesus’ Father in heaven? Do we have the distinguishing characteristics of God’s people? Faith in Jesus means nothing unless we do the will of God the Father. Is that clear?
