IS SALVATION A FREE GIFT?

According to the apostle Paul salvation is a free gift. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.

But if we can ask Adam and Eve they would say that salvation is not a gift at all. In a gift situation the title would pass from the giver to the receiver. In salvation, the title never passes to the receiver. The giver retains the title until the receiver dies. In other words, in salvation the giver can always take back the gift that it has already given to the receiver, e.g. Judas Iscariot. This proves that salvation is never a gift! NO, salvation is not a free gift. If it is, once we are saved, we are forever saved. But that is not true. No one is forever saved while on earth, none!

Jesus said, "But he who endures to the end shall be saved” Judas Iscariot does not endure to the end. Only those who are faithful to the end will be saved. In other words, if we believe and accept Jesus when we are 13 years old, we are not saved yet. We are saved when we are faithful to the end.

If an elder of your church tells your 13 year old daughter that she is saved after she is baptized, let me assure you that the elder has not spent enough time sitting on the toilet seat. He doesn’t understand what he is saying.

Salvation is a CONDITIONAL GIFT. And the condition is not faith, but work. The condition is not faith, but obedience. Adam and Eve lost eternal life because they disobeyed God. Lucifer and millions of his angels lost eternal life because they too disobeyed God.

God said, "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. "So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.” Revelation 3:15-16. What did God say? He said He knows our works. He did not say that He knows our faith. He knows our faith by watching our works. Why did I underline certain words? Because I want you to know that there are many liars in today’s churches. They will say anything to tickle our ears. They will do and say anything to rip us off and fill their pockets with cash. They don’t care whether we go to heaven or not. They don’t care! Liar, liar, pants on fire.

Readers, I have no doubt that some of you may have shown mercy to someone in your life. Do we boast? No, we do not! Is mercy faith or work? Can we get God’s grace without work? No, we cannot. Can we get God's grace without repentance? No! When we repent, that's how we earn God's grace. We have to earn God’s grace through work.

“Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth, and [that] every intent of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the LORD said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them." But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” Genesis 6:5-8. Readers, do you know why Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord? Not because he kept his beard clean. No! Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord because he obeyed God the Father.

Why did millions or billions of others perished? Why? Because they did not do the will of God the Father. They have not earned salvation. We must work to earn our salvation. Some say that salvation in fact is a liability if we don’t keep earning our salvation.

Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. "Many will say to Me in that day, `Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' "And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'” Matthew 7:21-23.

Noah saw grace in the eyes of the Lord because he does the will of God in heaven. You and I will see grace in the eyes of the Lord if we do the will of God the Father.

Where can we find the will of God the Father? Jesus said, "`You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' "This is [the] first and great commandment. "And [the] second [is] like it: `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'” Matthew 22:37-39.

How can we love the LORD our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind?

Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14:15. Jesus’ commandments = the commandments of God the Father. How big or how little our faith in God is can be determined by the amount of work that we do for Him. Doing the will of God is WORK. Are we clear on that? Forget about the “gift” nonsense!
