ON THE ROAD TO CONVERSION
“Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. “As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?" And he said, "Who are You, Lord?" Then the Lord said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It [is] hard for you to kick against the goads." So he, trembling and astonished, said, "Lord, what do You want me to do?" Then the Lord [said] to him, "Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do." Acts 9:1-6.
Saul was on his way to Damascus to get permission from the high priest to kill more Christians when he heard a voice from heaven. He was scared and astonished. He heard the voice say that He was Jesus?
Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. “ Matthew 7:21.
Adam and Eve were evicted from the Garden of Eden because they did not do the will of Jesus’ Father. They also lost eternal life because they did not do the will of Jesus’ Father. Jesus said he who does the will of My father in heaven shall enter the kingdom of heaven. Heaven is guaranteed if we do the will of Jesus’ Father. Do we know what the will of Jesus’ Father is? Do we do the will of Jesus’ Father? NO. Many, if not most Christians, do not do the will of Jesus or Jesus’ Father. Most Christians do the will of Saul of Tarsus. What is the will of Saul or Paul? Saul said, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.“ Ephesians 2:8-9.
Paul says we are saved by faith, and not by work or by doing the will of Jesus or Jesus’ Father. He goes so far as to encourage his followers to ignore God’s laws and replace them with his law.
"Many will say to Me on that day, `Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' “ Matthew 7:22-23.
Jesus said that many men or women of great faith will say that they have done great wonders in Jesus’ name but Jesus declares to them ‘'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
Saul of Tarsus took the wrong turn when he was on his way to conversion. He is dead. His fate is sealed. But we are still free. We are still alive. Make the right choice today.
