FATHER, FORGIVE THEM
While hanging on the cross Jesus prayed to His Father in heaven and said, “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do”. Luke 23:34. What can we learn from Luke 23:34? I learned that Jesus had no authority to forgive our sins. Only God the Father can forgive our sins. And the Jews did not know that what they did to Jesus was a serious sin.
But, yes, God the Father will forgive them for crucifying Jesus! They didn’t know what they were doing. Jesus, our Attorney is no longer here with us today. Who is going to defend us? No worries. Jesus can and will still defend us. Jesus was a human being when He was on earth. He has gone through similar problems and temptations that all human beings have gone through.
He knows the problems and temptations that all of us have faced as human beings. He will help us, and He will defend us, and take care of our needs as long as we are obedient to His Father in heaven, and as long as we do the will of His Father in heaven. How do I know that, you ask?
Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-23, "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. "Many will say to Me on that day, `Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' "And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'” He, Jesus, cannot help us if we refuse to do the will of His Father. Don’t ask Jesus to help us and give us a pass to enter the kingdom of heaven if we disobey His Father. Don’t even try that trick! Why? Because it is a sin if we don’t do the will of Jesus’ Father.
We cannot practice lawlessness and still go to heaven. Don’t even try. And Jesus cannot forgive our sins if they are committed against His Father. Don’t even try. Jesus can defend us only when we have committed NO sin against God the Father, when we have done the will of Jesus’ Father. But if we do our own will, against His will, we are on our own. Remember, and don’t ever forget that Jesus has no authority to forgive sins.
As you can see in Matthew 7:21-23, sin against God the Father is treated the same way during Adam and Eve and during the end of time, but worst - hell!
Jesus cannot forgive our sins when they are committed against Yahweh, God the Father. Read again Matthew 7:21-23. If you have problems with your vision, buy a strong magnifying glass. Jesus cannot forgive our sins.
That’s why while hanging on the cross Jesus prayed to His Father and said, “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do”. Luke 23:34.
