THE MISSION OF JESUS
Hundreds or thousands of articles have been written about Jesus, His mission on earth, and why He died. Why was Jesus crucified? Let’s start with the facts. Let’s start with the records.
“Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they themselves did not go into the Praetorium, lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat the Passover. Pilate then went out to them and said, "What accusation do you bring against this Man?" They answered and said to him, "If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him up to you." Then Pilate said to them, "You take Him and judge Him according to your law." Therefore the Jews said to him, "It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death," that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled which He spoke, signifying by what death He would die. Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" Jesus answered him, "Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me?" Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?" Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here." Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say [rightly] that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no fault in Him at all. "But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Do you therefore want me to release to you the King of the Jews?" Then they all cried again, saying, "Not this Man, but Barabbas!" Now Barabbas was a robber.” John 18:28-40.
If we read John 19, Pilate did everything for Jesus, but at the end he could do little for Jesus. Pilate had to follow the Jews’ laws and customs. Or he might risk his own life. Now you, readers, know the facts why Jesus was crucified. Pilate followed the Jews’ laws and customs. If he did not he could lose his own life or job.
What was Jesus’ mission? Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. "Many will say to Me on that day, `Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' "And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'” Matthew 7:21-23.
I believe that Jesus was crucified because He wanted us to do the will of God the Father. That was His misson. Unless we do His will, none of us will be saved, none! We can have faith as big as the biggest mountain on earth, but if we refuse to do the will of God, He will not save us. Readers, do we know what the will of God the Father is? It is written in the Bible.
Mark 12:30-31 says, `And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This [is] the first commandment.” "And the second, like [it, is] this: `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14:15.
If we honestly love Him, we will keep His commandments. We shall keep His commandments.
And the essence of the Ten Commandments is found in Mark 12:30-31, `And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This [is] the first commandment.” "And the second, like [it, is] this: `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
When we keep the Ten Commandments, we have done His will.
God bless.
